Fantasy Sports in Texas
Not only is Texas home to world class sports, from the greatest high school and college football traditions, to some of the best teams in MLB, NBA and NFL, but it is the birthplace of fantasy sports.
Daniel Okrent, then a writer for Texas Monthly, came up with the idea of fantasy baseball in 1978. Thirty-five years later, more than a dozen fantasy-sports related businesses are headquartered in the Lone Star state and an estimated 5 million Texans participate in fantasy sports contests each year. And they do so because fantasy sports are a form of entertainment that allows them to have a deeper appreciation for the sports that they love.
