Attorney General Ken Paxton says daily fantasy sports games should be classified as illegal gambling. But a legislative veteran aims to block him next year.
Rep. Richard Raymond, D-Laredo, will challenge Paxton’s opinion with a bill that would declare all fantasy sports to be “games of skill not games of chance.”
“I don’t think it’s right for government to propose kinds of limits and to outlaw it in a way, as the attorney general is suggesting,” Raymond said Thursday.
The bill would officially recognize the legality of fantasy sports leagues in which people place money before playing to possibly win a greater sum. Raymond’s legislation, however, would make it illegal for people younger than 18 to play those specific games.
Paxton declined to comment on the upcoming legislation.
